As the nation mourns the loss of Queen Elizabeth II, the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) has announced that all practical driving and theory tests have been cancelled on Monday 19th September.
This is the day of the Her Majesty The Queen’s state funeral, which has now been made a Bank Holiday.
“Our thoughts are with His Majesty King Charles III and the Royal Family at this sad time … We are suspending all but our most essential services on 19 September due to the Bank Holiday and State Funeral, allowing individuals, businesses and other organisations to pay their respects to Her Majesty. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this period of national mourning.”

Practical tests
If you have a test scheduled for the 19th, you should receive a notice from the DVSA that it has been suspended. The agency will automatically rebook your test for the first available date.
Theory tests
Again, these have been suspended and the DVSA should be in touch to let you know how to book another date for the test.
Driving instructors
Instructors are also impacted as the various tests and checks they must complete are also suspended on the 19th.
Online services
The DVSA says that its online services will all still be available on Monday.
Driving lessons
These will continue depending on your instructor and how they plan to spend the day. If you’ve got a lesson booked, you should have heard from your instructor by now. If not, drop them a quick line to confirm your lesson is still going ahead.
